A16z Invests Over $100 Million
Since the a16z Speedrun’s launch in 2023, it has invested $100+ million in more than 120 startups. Now the team have officially opened applications for its fifth edition, SR005. The 12-week program kicks off on July 28th in Los Angeles, offering selected companies up to $1 Million in investment. The program culminates with Demo Day on October 7th during SF Tech Week.

The program focuses on AI and interactive technology, with previous cohorts featuring startups in commerce, development, storytelling, web3, and entertainment. Last year’s SR004 saw over 6,000 applicants, with just 42 selected, highlighting the competitive nature of the program. Applications close May 11th.

Sony’s Soneium x Animoca Brands
Sony’s Soneium blockchain has teamed up with Animoca Brands to integrate Moca Network’s identity infrastructure and launch anime-themed experiences in web3. This partnership will enhance user engagement and credential verification on Soneium, an Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain powered by Optimism’s Superchain.
Here's a quick overview…
🔹 Moca Network’s Identity Layer on Soneium –
The collaboration introduces Anime ID, a decentralized identifier (DID) and reputation layer led by San FranTokyo. This will allow users to maintain embedded accounts and verify credentials across dApps on Soneium.
🔹 Anime & Blockchain Integration –
San FranTokyo will launch anime-inspired initiatives to onboard fans into the blockchain ecosystem, creating new ways to engage with anime culture digitally.
🔹 Sony’s Vision for Digital Identity –
Sony Block Solutions Labs (SBSL) sees this as a step toward a connected web3 future, leveraging blockchain to enhance creativity and user interaction.
🔹 Cross-Chain Expansion –
Moca Network’s AIR SDK will also be integrated into other blockchains like Base and Plume, enabling universal digital identities and cross-ecosystem rewards.
